The Romanesque seat of the Medici and the authorities of the Florentine Republic was established at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The most interesting interior of the palace is the House of Five Hundred - a room 54 meters long and 18 meters high with monumental frescoes by Giorgo Vasari. There is also a statue of Michelangelo "Genius annihilating the Wild Beast".
