Caserta is a city that has remained famous as a royal holiday destination to this day. There is an 18th century Bourbon Palace surrounded by a wonderful park, sometimes comparable to Versailles.
The surroundings of the city are very picturesque, with small hills and numerous parks and nature reserves. The local Tyrrhenian coast is also beautiful, it is rich in sandy beaches directly adjacent to the coastal pine forests.
Casserta's highlight is the 18th-century Bourbon Dynasty Palace. The rulers of the Kingdom of Naples belonged to one of the most important royal families in Europe, which included, among others on the throne of France. At a time when the eccentric king Charles III decided to build a palace that was to overshadow Versailles with its grandeur, Naples no longer played a great role among Italian states. The residence was above all a symbol of the greatness of the Bourbon family.
The Royal Palace in Casserta was built in the mid-18th century in the late Baroque and Classicist styles. Its shape still impresses with its harmony and dignity, and the interiors delight with rich decorations and attention to detail.
The residence is surrounded by the Royal Park , designed to create the appropriate setting for the building and improve the perspective of its location. In the park, you can admire huge ponds with fountains, lines of evenly trimmed shrubs and colorful flower beds.
