One of the largest squares in Italy, whose name comes from a plebiscite carried out in 1860, as a result of which the Kingdom of Both Sicily joined the uniting Italy. It has an irregular shape and is dominated by the silhouette of the New Royal Palace from the 19th century and the neoclassical church of St. Francis. The square, due to its size, hosts numerous outdoor events and concerts.
