The underground of Naples bored in the volcanic tuff on which the city was built from the early Middle Ages to the 18th century. They served as water tanks, warehouses and places of refuge in the event of wars. Last time they were fully used during World War II as a shelter during air raids. Currently, a tourist route runs through some of the corridors. remains of the aqueduct, shelter rooms with equipment, and even an underground herb garden.
