Hluboká nad Vltavou is a small town located picturesquely in the Vltava valley. Its most important monument is the Schwarzenberg Palace, which refers to its structure in the style of English Gothic.
The area is a popular recreational area, especially for residents of nearby České Budějovice. There are hiking and biking trails, a large sports center with sports fields, a swimming pool and tennis courts. In the summer, cruise ships sail on the Vltava River. You can also go on a canoe trip. There is also a small airport nearby, which offers scenic flights over the area.
The village is known primarily as one of the residences of the Schwarzenberg family. Hluboká Castle is one of the most important neo-Gothic works in the Czech Republic. Both castle gardens and interiors are open to visitors, with several sightseeing routes. The castle tower offers a beautiful view of the surroundings, and a painting gallery operates in the castle riding school.
In addition to the castle, an interesting attraction is the South Bohemian Zoo Hluboká nad Vltavou. It was founded by the Schwarzenberg family in 1939 and specializes in breeding otters. In addition to them, other animals live in temperate climates.
