Castle Rožmberk
Local name: Hrad Rožmberk
Rožmberk Castle is a medieval defensive stronghold towering over the town of the same name. It is one of the oldest castles in southern Bohemia, as well as one of the first of its kind in the country, which was made available to visitors. You can see here a rich collection of paintings, weapons, furniture as well as porcelain and glass. Rožmberk is also a popular place to organize weddings, organize cultural events, fencing competitions or costume balls.
The stronghold was probably built in the first half of the 13th century. The castle was situated on a high hill in the picturesque Vltava bend and was one of the first seats of the aristocratic Rožmberk family. This place is also strongly associated with the Buquoy family, which you can learn a lot about during your visit. However, the most famous figure associated with the castle is Perchta of Rožmberk, named after the death of the White Lady.
