Fiesole is a town in the Tuscan hills. It is one of the best viewpoints for nearby Florence.
The city has ancient roots. It was probably founded by the Etruscans, and then was under the rule of the Romans. Many monuments from this period have been found here, the most important of them and one of the main attractions of Fiesole is the Roman theater. Items from the excavations can be viewed at the Feasulanum Museum.
Due to its location, Fiesole is an excellent viewpoint over the surrounding area, especially over Florence. From here, you can see the historic city center with the huge dome of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore towering above it.
In the center of Fiesole you can find a lot of historic buildings, and the most important buildings in the town include the Romanesque monastery of St. Francis.
