Arona is a tourist destination on Lake Maggiore. In the past, the city was owned by the Borromeo family, from which St. Charles Borromeo.
The city center is centered around the marina from which the ships depart for cruises on Lake Maggiore. One of the carriers that land here is Gestione Navigazione Laghi, which has the largest fleet in the area.
The history of Arona and its greatest heyday is closely related to the Borromean family. many of the local names derive from their surname, and many buildings in the city have them for their founders. Arona's attractions include the Colossus of San Carlo Borromeo, the statue of St. Charles Borromeo made of copper plates shortly after his canonization in 1610. Initially, it was supposed to crown the Holy Mountain with pilgrimage chapels, but its construction was never completed. Currently, it stands on the shores of the lake and is one of the landmarks of the town.
The Rocca Borromea Park, a rocky hill on the shores of Maggiore, is a great place for walks. There are ruins of the watchtower Mozza Tower and the Borromeo Castle, which were destroyed by Napoleon's army.
