The Roman Catholic cathedral is one of the most important buildings in the region. It is also believed to be the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy. Construction began in 1396 on the site of an earlier Romanesque temple. Works were not closed until 1770 with the completion of the Rococo dome by Filippo Juvarra.
