Valtice is a small town picturesquely located among the Moravian hills. They are surrounded by vineyards that are among the best in the Czech Republic. The village is part of the UNESCO-protected Lednice-Valtice Area.
From the medieval times, Valtice belonged to the Liechtenstein family, who built a Renaissance here, then rebuilt in the Baroque style Valtice Castle. It is sometimes compared with the Versailles itself because of the scale and splendor of the entire building. The palace is surrounded by extensive gardens and a park that connects with the same family's properties in nearby Lednice.
In addition to the castle itself, the park also has many interesting monuments. Here you can find the Reistna Colonnade, from the top of which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area, the Herb Garden, as well as the former hunting palace Temple of Diana - Rendez-vous erected in the form of a triumphal arch.
The Valtic area is famous for its viticulture and centuries-old wine tradition. Tastings are organized in the castle's cellars, which can be combined with visiting the facility. The National Wine Center also operates in Valtice, which shows the history of viticulture and the production of fine wine in Moravia.
An interesting place is also the Iron Curtain Museum opened here because of the proximity of the border with Austria, which in the post-war period was also the border of the "free world".
