The Red Stone Castle is located in the Little Carpathians, about 40 kilometers from Bratislava. It is picturesquely situated on a hill among forests. It is a Renaissance-Baroque residence with rich stonemasonry and stucco decorations. The castle is a branch of the Slovak National Museum. There are exhibitions of magnate portraits, old furniture and handicrafts.
The beginnings of the stronghold date back to the 13th century. At that time there was a defensive castle, which in the 16th century passed into the hands of the magnate Palffy family. They ruled the Red Stone until the end of World War II. It was thanks to them that the mountain fortress was transformed into a richly decorated residence.
The Red Stone Castle is one of the best preserved in Slovakia. You can admire original, richly decorated interiors. They are completely equipped with furniture and everyday objects. Visitors can see a collection of paintings, handicrafts and weapons. There is also a wine cellar in the castle. Knight tournaments and outdoor events are also organized here.
