PLAVECKÉ PODHRADIESlovakia
Plavecké Podhradie Castle
Local name: Plavecký hrad
Built in the 13th century, the fortress was used to defend the borderland. It was first conquered during the uprising against the Habsburgs in 1638, and then in 1706 by Franciszek II Rakoczy. After regaining the fortress, the Habsburg army destroyed it completely. The castle was never rebuilt - today it is a picturesque ruin and a viewing point.
