Loučeň is a town known primarily for its 18th century castle surrounded by vast gardens. There are over a dozen labyrinths made of vegetation in his park.
The city was founded in the Middle Ages and it was connected with a small stronghold that existed here. The fortress was destroyed during the 17th-century wars and a late-baroque mansion was built in its place in the 18th century.
Loučeň chateau consists of an "L" shaped body connected to the former chateau chapel, which is now the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The castle experienced its greatest boom in the 19th century, when it was owned by the Thurn-Taxis family. Currently, its interiors have been reconstructed after the destruction from the post-World War II period and are open to the public.
A great attraction of Loučeň are the labyrinths located in the castle gardens, made of shrubs, trees and fitting into the natural terrain. It is the largest group of such installations in the Czech Republic.
