Lipnice nad Sázavou is a small town dominated by the silhouette of one of the largest castles in the Czech Republic. The Gothic building is open to the public and many outdoor and historical events take place here.

Initially, the town was divided into two parts, Lipnice Dolna and Górna. Dolna was the first to be established at the beginning of the 13th century as a trade and craft settlement, while Górna, which dates back to the 14th century, was directly related to the castle from the very beginning.

The Lipnice nad Sazavou Castle, which is the main attraction of the village, was built by the Lichtenburg family. Thanks to its strategic location, it was besieged many times and until the 18th century it played a significant role in the Czech defense system. Currently it is open to the public - you can see, among others part of the chambers with stylized furniture and the Chapel of St. Lawrence.

In the lower part of the town, near the picturesque market square, there is the Gothic church of St. Vitus Cathedral and historic tenement houses. The town is also associated with one of the most famous Czech writers, Jaroslav Hašek. The house where he lived and a grave in the cemetery are located here.
