Laxenburg is a small town whose treasure is the palace and park complex that belonged to the Habsburgs in the past. It is at the heart of the romantic castle Franzensburg, which houses a museum.

From the fourteenth century, the town was in the hands of the Habsburgs and thanks to this, despite its low economic or administrative importance, it developed rapidly and was expanded in accordance with subsequent architectural styles. Currently, its center is kept in the baroque style, and its most important building is the 17th-century Church of the Exaltation of the Cross.

On the outskirts of the village is the large Laxanburg Castle Park, the largest of the local attractions. Within it, you can see the gothic-renaissance Old Castle, the baroque New Castle and the Franzensburg Castle built at the beginning of the 19th century. Emperor Franz Joseph II and Empress Elizabeth, known as Sisi, spent their honeymoon on the estate.

From the beginning of its construction, Franzensburg was intended for museum purposes and as a place for visitors. It was built in a romantic style, reminiscent of Gothic castles, on the island. It can be reached by the Franzensburg ferry or by the bridge. You can also sail on the lake in boats rented on site.

Visiting the Laxenburg Park provides many surprises and delights. There are numerous romantic buildings here, such as the Grüne Lusthaus pavilion, the Gothic Bridge, the Forstmeister Bridge and the Tournament Square with an observation deck. The entire area is cut by a network of paths that can be wandered for up to several hours.
