This is a publicly available, central scientific library, which is located in the New Castle on Plac Bohaterów. First of all, it collects copies of all printed and published works in the country. In addition, all Austrian authors' works are published abroad, as well as those regarding Austrians or Austrian cultural heritage.
The rich library collection also includes a collection of maps taken over from the royal family, containing copies from the 16th century. The presence of 685 globes in the exhibition makes the Library the only Museum of the Globes in the world. It is also worth mentioning about the Papyrus Museum with exhibits even from the 15th century BC and a music collection containing scores and notes of composers such as Strauss.
The building being the seat of the Library dates from 1726. The interior of the building is decorated with elements of Baroque architecture and frescoes depicting the values of the Habsburgs and the wealth of their country.
