According to legend, Las Sherwood near Nottingham was supposed to be a refuge for the noble robber Robin Hood. To this day you can admire the headquarters of his greatest enemy and opponent, Sheriff Nottingham. The medieval, Norman-root castle with massive walls now houses a museum depicting the history of the area. Sam Sherwood Forest is currently a popular place for walks, trips and picnics.

One of the biggest attractions of Nottingham is not visible in the buildings of the city. It is under today's streets. It's a maze of corridors, basements and chambers drilled since the Middle Ages by the city's inhabitants. Some basements are open to the public in the form of a tourist route.

Most of the buildings in the center of Nottingham were built at the end of the 18th and 19th centuries. The representative squares, the Old Market Square and the Lace Market surround the Victorian and neoclassical ones. The building of the former Stock Exchange with a glass roof now houses fashionable boutiques and restaurants.
