Sherwood Forest
Sherwood Royal Forest is in Nottinghamshire. Known throughout the world because of his connection with the legend of Robin Hooda, who reportedly traveled these areas in the years 1191-1234. In summer, Sherwood hosts a weekly festival of this most famous English hero, and the forest itself annually attracts half a million tourists from around the world.
Sherwood Forest is actually a recreational area of 423 ha, since 2002 with the title of a nature reserve. It is worth knowing that it is a remnant of a much larger forest. Interestingly, research shows that this area has been afforested since the end of the Ice Age. You will find here many old plant formations, including the legendary English oak called Major Oak, whose age is estimated at about 800 years. According to legend, it was here that Robin Hood's headquarters was located.
