Winterthur is often referred to as the Swiss art treasury. With its 17 museums, it ranks among the top collections in the country, the biggest attraction is the Swiss Science Center Technorama.
The city was founded in Roman times. There was a settlement called Vitudurum. During the Middle Ages, it was a large commercial center, and the picturesque Old Town is a remnant of the old centuries. On the outskirts of Winterthur, you can see the small but charming Hegi Castle, which is an example of a typical Swiss medieval knight's court.
The biggest attractions of Winterthur are the local museums. Art lovers can admire the priceless collection of Oskar Reinhart "Am Römerholz", which houses paintings from the 16th to the 20th centuries, including large collections of French paintings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Among other local museums, the most important are the Winterthur Art Museum, the Photo Museum with works by leading photographers from around the world, the Nature Museum, the Trade Museum, the Clock Museum and the Steam Engine Museum.
The attraction that attracts the most visitors is the Swiss Science Center Technorama. There are several hundred interactive stations, thanks to which you can learn the laws of physics, chemistry and biology. The small Wildlife Park Bruderhaus is also a popular tourist destination.
