Einsiedeln Abbey

The Benedictine monastery was established in 934 and dedicated to the Mother of the Hermits. The baroque church was built in 1719, commissioned by the abbot, and the main designer was Caspar Moosbrugger. The monastery is the most important Marian sanctuary in the country, and in medieval times it was an important point along the Way of St. James.
