Lausanne is located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, on Lake Geneva. It is picturesquely situated on the hills, overlooking the impressive Savoy Alps. Currently, it is primarily a university city and a large congress center, as well as the seat of the International Olympic Committee.

Today's Lausanne is located in areas that were already inhabited in Roman times. The episcopate was created here in the 6th century, and today the monumental Lausanne cathedral is one of the most important early Gothic monuments in Switzerland. Apart from the small old town located on the hills, there are not many monuments here.

However, Lausanne's cultural offer is very extensive. The most important of the museums here is the Olympic Museum, which presents the history of the Olympic movement and the Olympic Games from their reactivation at the end of the 19th century to today. The city also has a unique collection of brutalist art, created by prisoners and patients of psychiatric institutions, presented at the Musee d'Art Brut. You can also visit dozens of other art and science museums, including the huge collection of European art presented at the Fondation de l'Hermitage.

Lausanne's advantage is its location on Lake Geneva with a view of the Alps. Cruise ships sail on the lake, residents and tourists can take advantage of the free municipal swimming pool, and in the area there are vineyards between which the tourist train Train des vignes runs.
