The museum was established in 1818 and is fully dedicated to zoology. It presents systematized collections of animals, insects and invertebrates. The most important collections include a collection of 1300 specimens and a collection of ants belonging to Auguste Forel. Three permanent exhibitions are supplemented with temporary exhibitions.
