Olympic Museum

Local name: Musée Olympique

The Olympic Museum (Le Musée Olympique) in Lausanne presents an exhibition showing the history of the Olympic Games from ancient times to the present day, as well as the history of the International Olympic Committee. You can see here, among others the first Olympic flag, Olympic torches and medals used to decorate athletes during the next Olympic Games.

Around the building there are green areas, in the park there are works of art set up referring to various sports fields and events. An interesting fact is one square meter of sidewalk brought from the Olympic village in Barcelona.

The museum was opened in 1993, on the initiative of Juan Antonio Samaranch - the then chairman of the IOC. In 1995 they were awarded the title of the European Museum of the Year. The building was designed by a Mexican architect - Pedro Ramirez Vazquez.
