Castle Gruyères
Local name: Château de Gruyères
Gruyères Castle was built in the 13th century. Currently, there is a museum here, guests can visit the historic chambers decorated in the Renaissance and Baroque styles, as well as the garden surrounding the building. Multimedia presentations showing the history of the castle were also prepared. Temporary exhibitions are organized in the old arsenal.
In the castle you can admire antique furniture, art collections and armor. Individual architectural elements represent different styles, come from different periods, the local tower was built in the 13th century, the residential chambers were designed in the Renaissance style, their design was created in the 16th century.
In the nineteenth century, the castle was a place where artists from various parts of Europe willingly stayed. It was here that they created: the French realistic painter Camille Corot and the Swiss Barthélemy Menn. Examples of Menna's work can still be seen in the castle today.
