Geneva Fountain

Jet d'Eau or Jet de Genève is one of the highest fountains in Europe. The water ejected by it rises to a height of over 140 meters, it is illuminated by twelve spotlights. The fountain is open all year round, it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, it is one of its symbols.
Water is thrown from the nozzle placed in the lake at a speed of 200 km / h, its flow rate is 500 liters per second. It is turned off only in exceptional situations, such as in heavy frosts or strong winds.
The first fountain was created in the 1880s, at that time it was the safety valve of the Geneva hydraulic network. It was in a different location, it was only at the end of the 18th century that it was moved to its present place. The fountain in its present shape was created in 1951.
