Valkenburg aan de Geul is a tourist destination with two family amusement parks and famous thermal baths. A big attraction is the complex of caves, the corridors of which are 250 km long, and some of them are open to the public.

The most important attraction of Valkenburg is the cave complex that was formed in the limestone rocks on which the city is built. Some of the sidewalks are open to visitors. In the City Cave, you can see sculptures exhibited by contemporary artists. On the walls of the Velvet Cave, inscriptions and paintings from several hundred years ago have been preserved. The area of the MergelRijk quarry, which has been in operation since Roman times, is connected to the caves.
