Castle ruin Valkenburg
Local name: Kasteelruïne Valkenburg
The history of the castle dates back to 1115, while the ruins that have survived to modern times are the remains of a fortress from the fourteenth century. The castle was destroyed in 1672 during the Franco-Dutch war. Currently has the status of a national monument. It is the only castle in the Netherlands built on a hill.
