Amstelveen is a city on the outskirts of Amsterdam and home to many multinational corporations and companies. It is a very friendly city with numerous parks and recreational areas.
Until the first half of the 20th century, Amstelveen was rural. Only after the headquarters of large Dutch companies, incl. KLM began its dynamic development. Currently, it is a modern center with numerous company headquarters and large housing estates, which are well integrated into the surrounding nature and canals.
Amstelveen is home to one of the largest shopping malls in the Netherlands, as well as a cheese farm open to the public, Rembrandt Hoeve. There are also two museums related to contemporary art, the Cobra Museum of Contemporary Art and the Jan Museum, with a large collection of glassware.
In 2000, Amstelveen received a new attraction, The Cherry Orchard, donated by the Japanese Women's Club. 400 cherry trees make up a beautiful park that is best visited in spring, when the trees are in bloom. The city is very friendly to all forms of recreation. There are numerous parks, bicycle and walking paths, as well as a canoe rental, thanks to which you can penetrate the surrounding canals and backwaters.
