Qrendi is a village and an administrative district in the south of Malta. It covers a large part of the coast with beautiful cliffs and rock caves. The village is also known for its prehistoric monuments, including famous temples and tombs.
On the outskirts of Qrendi is its main historical attraction. These are Neolithic buildings, the Hagar Qim Temple and the Mnajdra Temple. Both are listed by UNESCO and are among the most important monuments of Malta. They were built around 3000 BC and have survived to this day in perfect condition. In addition to the temples in this area, you can also see the Misraħ is-Sinjura dolmen and the Misqa water reservoir.
In Qrendi itself, there are many interesting buildings from different eras. The oldest and most beautiful are the local churches, including the 18th-century monumental church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are also numerous smaller chapels, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy, and defensive towers scattered around the village and on the coast, such as the Cavalier, Ħamrija and Sciuta towers.
Many tourists come to Qurendi to see the famous Blue Grotto. This is one of the main attractions of the coast of Malta. Boats to the Blue Grotto depart from a small marina. They are small, colorful fishing vessels and the cruise is an additional attraction.
