Birżebbuġa is a holiday resort with one of the few sandy beaches in Malta. On its outskirts there is the Ghar Dalam cave with an underground tourist route.
The town is located on the bays of Pretty Bay and St. George's Bay. In the past, it was fortified, as recalled by military monuments such as Fort Benghisa, the Pinto Battery and the Ferreri Battery, and the St. George. When visiting Birżebbuġa, you can also see a nice church of St. Peter and the Classicist Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Despite the well-preserved historic center, it is not the monuments that attract tourists. The most important attraction is the Birżebbuġa beach, covered with sand and perfectly developed. In its vicinity there is the Birżebbuġa promenade, which comes alive mainly in the evenings.
The Ghar Dalam cave located on the outskirts of the city is very popular among tourists. It is a karst cave with a nice dripstone form. It is also known for the local palaeontological finds, which can be seen at the Ghar Dalam Museum.
