Saronno is a small town known for the production of Amaretti cookies and Amaretto liqueur. There is also a small old town with a few noteworthy historic churches.
The city is situated among wooded hills and its center is located on a small hill. The buildings are immersed in the greenery of the surrounding forests, and the towers of several historic churches rise above the houses. The most important of them is the Church of Madonna dei Miracoli, visited by pilgrims since the 15th century. Inside its dome, you can see an impressive painting depicting an angelic concert, and on the walls there are scenes from the life of Mary.
A big attraction of Saronno are the local traditions related to baking the famous amaretti cookies. They have a bitter taste and are perfect for coffee. Although amaretti are produced all over Italy, Saronno is considered their capital. You can get them in many shops and bakeries in the city, as well as Amaretto, made from almonds.
