Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden is a tourist town in the Bavarian Alps, lying partly in the Berchtesgaden National Park. In addition to great views and unspoiled nature, it is also known for its postcard church of St. Sebastian, who is one of the most photographed in Bavaria.
The Alpine village has an intimate character and is a great base for people who like mountain hiking. A very popular place in the area is the Wimbach Gorge sandwiched between the Watzmann and Hochklater massifs. The route with numerous waterfalls between the rock walls is covered on wooden footbridges.
A very picturesque place is also the Enchanted Forest, which grows on a rock landslide. Trees and their roots entwine the rocks creating a fairytale scenery. Another popular route leads to Lake Hinter, where you can see the mountain peaks. The nearby Lake Königssee is covered by a quiet zone, although you can swim on it without using motor boats.
An interesting place for walks is Ramsauer Malerweg, where reproductions of nineteenth-century images of the area were placed. During the walk, tourists can compare how the surroundings of the village have changed. The trail leads to the church of St. Sebastian belongs to the most beautifully situated in Bavaria.
To get to some of the trails in the area without strenuous climbing uphill you can use the Hochschwarzeck cableway, which also serves skiers of the local ski resort in winter.
