Mozart's Birth House is a tenement house where he was born and for many years lived one of the most famous composers in the world, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Above all, the museum presents Mozart's early life. Here we will see his childhood instruments, violin and clavichord, as well as documents, portraits and personal items. In addition, the museum allows you to see what the realities of home life looked like in the second half of the 18th century.
The building was built in the 12th century and changed owners many times. In the years 1747-1773, the Mozarts and their children lived here. The famous composer was born here in 1756. The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century.
At present, this tenement house is known primarily as the Mozart Birthplace, but sometimes the name Hagenauer House is also used, from the name of the family who owned the house and from whom the Mozart family rented it.
