Burghausen is a historic city on the Salzach River just off the Austrian border. It owes its fame above all to the medieval castle towering over it and the picturesque old town with colorful tenement houses.

The city developed at the foot of Burghausen Castle, which was the seat of one of the princely family of Wittelsbachów. Today, within its walls is the City Museum, and the building itself is considered the longest castle in Europe and is also a great viewpoint on the river valley and town.

Walking around the historic center, you can see, among others, the Jadwiga's Gothic chapel, the church of St. James and the Holy Spirit Church, as well as an interesting clock tower and fountain house.

In Burghausen there is no shortage of opportunities to spend time actively. The Wöhrseebad open-air swimming pool operates in summer. You can also take advantage of the numerous hiking and biking trails and the Mini golf Burghausen offer. Cruises around Salzach are very popular, during which you can admire the panorama of the city and the castle rising above it.
