Salzburg has been the center of Austrian brewing art for several centuries. Stiegl Brewery was founded in 1492, and from the 16th century was already the largest brewery in Salzburg. In the nineteenth century, a fire destroyed several years earlier modernized buildings, but they were quickly rebuilt and production resumed. In the 21st century, Stiegl remains one of the most modern Austrian breweries.
