Castle Burghausen
Local name: Burg zu Burghausen
A monumental, medieval defensive castle situated on a hill. The entire castle complex is about 1 kilometer long, which makes it classified as the longest fortified structure of this type in Europe - it is entered in the Guinness Book of Records. There are several museums within the castle walls.
The complex includes, among others, 6 courtyards, a Knights' Hall, a clock tower, an armory, a bakery, a brewery and the chapel of Princess Jadwiga.
A large part of the stronghold's buildings were built in the years 1393-1505. During the Thirty Years' War it was partially rebuilt. At the end of the eighteenth century, it housed the prince's tax office and also a military garrison was stationed.
At the end of the 15th century, the castle was inhabited by Polish princess Jadwiga Jagiellon, who was also a Bavarian princess.
