Brühl is a city with Roman roots, visited by tourists because of the palaces here and nearby one of the largest German amusement parks Phantasialand.
In Roman times, a paved road ran through the Brühl area, the remains of which were found during archeological research. There was also a settlement here, and its remains can be seen in the Rhineland Museum in Bonn.
The beginnings of today's Brühl date back to the 7th century. There was a trade settlement here, which eventually grew and received city rights in the 13th century. From 1567, the city was the summer residence of the electorate of Rhineland and it is from this period that most of its monuments come from.
The most important of them and at the same time the symbol of the city is Augustusburg Castle surrounded by the Castle Park, the 18th century. It was built in the late Baroque style, and the interiors have Rococo features. The palace and park complex is on the UNESCO list. The entry also includes the hunting palace Falkenlust located nearby. In its gardens there is a picturesque, polygonal Chapel of St. Maria Aegyptiaca.
The city itself is perfect for leisurely walks. Around the square in Brühl you can see nice, restored tenements from different eras. There are also historic churches, the Church of Our Lady of the Angels and the Church of St. Margaret. Art lovers await the Max Ernst Museum dedicated to one of the most important German surrealist painters.
Currently, Brühl is also associated with the huge Phantasialand theme park, which is divided into lands referring to different parts of the world. Among his most popular attractions are rollercoasteries, and the complex also has an adventure park, spa and wellness center, and hotels and restaurants.
