Blumberg is a tourist town in the Black Forest, surrounded by forests and hills. Its surroundings have a well-developed network of hiking and biking trails. There are also historic houses covered with tiled roofs and a church from the Middle Ages.
In the past, iron ore was mined in the mountains around Blumberg. Small steel mills operated mainly in the 17th century and then briefly between 1934 and 1943. The deposits, however, were small and their further exploitation was unprofitable.
Today, the city is the local center of tourism and the starting point for discovering the Black Forest. The surrounding area has great landscape and sightseeing values, and the highlight of Blumberg is the historic Sauschwänzle railway. On a 25-kilometer route, it goes through the beautiful Wutach valley, overcoming viaducts and historic bridges.
From Blumberg you can also go hiking and biking in the area. In forests and through meadows, numerous trails have been marked out here and picnic areas have been designated.
