Bad Aibling is a spa town with a history dating back to the 9th century. In the past, it was the seat of the local authorities on behalf of the Dukes of Falkenstein.

The town developed from the 9th century as a local administrative center. It was one of the seats of the Falkenstein family, and then it became part of the Wittelsbach heritage. The historic urban layout has been preserved here, with many historic tenement houses dating mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The rich history of the city is documented by the Museum of Local History.

At the end of the 19th century, Bad Aibling began to develop as a health resort. Currently, its biggest attraction is the Aibling Thermal Baths with thermal pools, spa rooms, saunas and a recreation area. In summer, the Wakebase Bad Aibling water sports area is popular with kayaks, boats, pedal boats and a water ski lift.
