TOČNÍK tourist attractions

Točník is a small village famous for the castle of the same name standing on a hill. There are also ruins of an older stronghold with a round watchtower in the area.

Today, the town is primarily a base for tourists visiting the nearby castle, and is of little tourist significance itself. From here, you can go out along the trail to Točník Castle and to the ruins of Żebrak Castle.

The first stronghold in the area was the Żebrak castle, which belonged to the royal residences. In the 14th century, it was destroyed as a result of wars and unrest that torn the country. The decision to rebuild the watchtower and build a new seat was made by King Wenceslaus IV. It stood on the second of the surrounding hills and quickly became his favorite place to stay. Even part of the royal treasury was moved here from Prague.

The splendor of Točník Castle was short. Already the successor of Wenceslas IV, Sigismund of Luxemburg, lost interest in him and gave him to one of the noble families. In the following centuries, the building was destroyed and rebuilt many times, and now it is made available to tourists as the biggest attraction of Točník.
