Netolice is a small town with a well-preserved historic center and a Renaissance castle standing on an artificial island. The area is also known for numerous archaeological discoveries, which led to the construction of an archaeological park here.
The fact that the area of today's Netolice was inhabited already in antiquity is proven by numerous monuments discovered during excavations. For this reason, it was decided to establish an archaeological park here. An early medieval fortified settlement was reconstructed, where you can see what life looked like in these areas before the formation of the Czech state.
The biggest attraction and most important monument of Netolic is Kratochvile Castle. It was built at the end of the 16th century to resemble an Italian Renaissance villa. It served as a hunting chateau and belonged to the most important Czech magnate families. The mansion stands on an artificial island and is surrounded by gardens and a square of farm buildings. Nowadays it houses an exhibition devoted to Czech puppet and animated films.
