Rakitowo is a small town and a local tourist center in the Rhodope Mountains. There are many hiking trails around, and there are also hot springs used in swimming pools and thermal baths.
The town has its origins in the Thracian times, but has never become a major center. It remained a local shopping center and local thermal bath. Today, one of the biggest attractions of Rakitov is the Kostradovo thermal pool.
The location at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains makes the area perfect for active tourism. There are relatively few people on the trails, so you can enjoy communing with nature and rest on your own. The most important excursion destinations are the Lepenitsa Cave and several viewpoints. An additional attraction for children is the Berdoland rope park.
In Rakitów, the 18th and 19th century buildings in the style of the Bulgarian revival have been partially preserved. There is also a clock tower from the Turkish era.
