Rila Monastery

The monastery was built in the fourteenth century on the site of the 10th century hermitage belonging to Ivan of Rila. The monastery complex is surrounded by walls 24 m high. It is worth paying special attention to the main church, whose walls are covered with numerous frescoes. The entire complex has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
