The hill is one of three on which the city's Old Town is located. It is here that the oldest remains of settlements from the Chalcolithic era, dating back to the 4th millennium BC, were found in the area. Currently, the hill has the status of a monument of national importance. Here you can see, among others remains of an ancient Thracian defensive fortress.
The oldest preserved part of the fortress is the so-called a cyclopean wall, made of massive unworked stones that were fitted together without the use of mortar. There are also defensive walls, formerly protecting the palace and farm buildings, as well as powerful cisterns used during sieges.
One of the most interesting discoveries on the hill is a secret passage in a rock massif with a preserved stone staircase. According to local legend, the apostle Paul was supposed to pass it.
