Mödling is a town in the Vienna Woods with some interesting castles in the vicinity. In its center, there are historic buildings with pretty tenement houses.
The city has medieval roots and in the past it belonged to several Austrian noble families. The first mentions of the local castle come from the 11th century, which has survived to this day as the ruins of Mödling Castle. They stand on a hill above the buildings. Above the city you can also see the neo-Gothic Black Tower, which remains in private hands to this day.
A major attraction and one of the most important sights in the Mödling area is the Gothic Liechtenstein Castle. In the surrounding area of the landscape park, you can visit numerous pavilions and buildings built mainly in the 19th century. The most famous of them are the Neoclassical Hussar Temple, standing on a hill and offering nice views of the surroundings.
