Engelhartstetten is a small town located in Lower Austria, near the border with Slovakia. Although there are not many monuments on its own, it is a good starting point to explore the Danube Valley and the nearby palaces.

The area where the town lies was already inhabited in ancient times. Roman troops were also stationed here, and the remains of their stay are the amphitheater in Bad-Deutsch-Altenburg and the triumphal arch in Heidentor. Both towns are within the cycling route of Engelhartstetten, and the bike path system is very well developed in this area.

Not far from Engelhartstetten there are also areas of the National Park Donau-Auen. It includes the Danube Valley and its immediate surroundings, with oxbow lake, superior thickets and dunes, as well as sandbanks on which numerous species of water and marsh birds nest.

Lower Austria, and especially its areas near today's border with Slovakia were in the past a place where aristocracy built its palaces. It was related to, among others with the proximity of Vienna and Bratislava. To this day, you can visit Baroque and Classicist residences such as Hof, Eckartsau and Niederweiden Castles.
