San Marino is the capital of the state of the same name, picturesquely situated on the Monte Titano Hill, from which you can admire vast panoramas reaching the Italian coast. A beautiful medieval old town has been preserved here, which is now entered on the UNESCO list.

The foundation of the city is considered to be the founding of a Christian community in 301 by St. Maryna. Today on the site of his grave stands the Basilica of St. Maryna, and he is the city's patron. From the 9th century, San Marino was a commune with a democratic system of government similar to the republican one. As a result, it is often considered the oldest republic in the world.

The spectacular location of San Marino is additionally enhanced by its fortifications. There are three defense towers on the tops of the mountain, which in the past, as part of nine castles, protected access to the city. Today, Borgo Maggiore Castle can be reached by cable car.

The attractions of San Marino are primarily the well-preserved buildings of the city centered around Piazza Liberta square and Palazzo Publico. There are also great museums, including the State Museum of San Marino, the Museum of Old Weapons, the Medieval Museum of Criminology and Torture, the Museum of Wax Figures and the Werewolf Museum.

The city is also famous for its wines produced in the surrounding vineyards and liqueurs of various flavors, which you can taste before buying. The Old Town is also full of restaurants, cafes and bars that live until late at night.
