A small, neoclassical tomb in which since 1780 the mortal remains of the poet Dante have been buried. He died in Ravenna in 1321 and was initially buried in the basilica of St. Francis. The tomb is a small, four-sided light stone building, covered with a dome. The interior is covered with marble cladding, and above the sarcophagus there is a fifteenth-century bas-relief depicting Dante at work.
