The world's only surviving baptistery built for the Arians. It was erected at the end of the 5th century at the behest of King Theodoric, a supporter of Arianism. After Ravenna was occupied by Justinian the Great, it was handed over to the Catholics.
It is an octagonal brick structure covered with a low dome. In the past, the entire interior was covered with mosaics, which today only survive inside the dome. The mosaic shows Christ being baptized by St. John and surrounded by the figures of the apostles. The baptistery is on the UNESCO list.Less
