Estoril is a seaside resort on the so-called Portuguese Riviera. It is famous for its elegance, well-prepared beaches and high level of services.
The town developed at the beginning of the 20th century, when mineral springs were discovered here. They quickly attracted patients, including representatives of the elite from nearby Lisbon. The former elitism of the resort is visible in its buildings. There are many seaside villas here, often with the appearance of fairy-tale castles, buildings transferred from the Cote d'Azur and a large casino.
Estoril Casino is known as the post-war residence of John Bourbon, a Spanish aristocrat and son of King Alfonso XIII. Tennis tournaments are also held in the city, and Formula 1 races were held here until 1996.
The main attractions of Estoril are the beaches here. The most important is Tamariz Beach, dominated by the silhouettes of villas-castles from the beginning of the 20th century. Poca beach and Sao Pedro de Estoril beach are also well developed. Along them there is a scenic promenade with many restaurants and bars. You can also walk in the Estoril Garden, among the numerous palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation.
